2022 Relentless Award

We are honored that REB+VoDKa+ME received an Honorable Mention for the 2022 Relentless Award, in honor of Adam Schlesinger, for works that “are challenging, exhibit fearlessness, exude passion, and are relentlessly truthful.”

It made it that much better to see that some of our very favorite friends and writers who are making some of my very favorite musicals were also recognized.

Thanks to the American Playwriting Foundation for this honor!

Something Blue in Ithaca

Walking on Water Productions’ New Original Works Festival included readings of Something Blue! I’m so glad that we had the chance to return to this project for the first time since 2020 so that we could do some long-awaited rewriting.

It was lovely to get to present our work in Julia’s hometown of Ithaca, NY, and was especially lovely to work with some wonderful new friends and collaborators: director Sarah Plotkin, music director Jeremy Pletter, stage manager Quin Frederich, and actors Hannah Avery (Joelle), Seamus Buxton (Geoff), and Paul Morgan (Casey).

The show was presented November 6, 12 & 18 at the Cherry Artspace. The festival included readings of Extended Stay by Jenny Stafford & Scotty Arnold and Onward and Upward by Charlie Romano & Will Wegner.

Thanks to Priscilla Hummel for including our work in WoW’s festival!

The Magnificent Seven: The Album

It’s happening! We re-assembled the wonderful cast and band of The Magnificent Seven at Theatre Row to record our first-ever cast recording!

The album was recorded September 23, 25 & 26 and October 5, 2022 at John Kilgore Sound & Recording and The Bunker Studios, engineered by John Kilgore. The album is produced by Steve Kyriakis & Matt Donaldson of MDSK Productions.

We can’t wait to share it with you soon… The album will be available on your favorite streaming platforms in early 2023!

Give Me the Option

Julia and I were thrilled to be invited by Tommy Ranieri to write a song imagining a musical version of our favorite cult classic movie…

And if you know us, it’s no surprise that we chose to write a song for The Virgin Suicides. The song, “Words,” is imagined as a diary entry discovered by the neighborhood boys, sung by the sisters.

We were lucky enough to write it for our friend and treasured collaborator Kylie Lavrenchik to sing (and boy did she ever sing it, backed up by the wonderful Sunday Dinner.)

It was a fun night at the Jane Ballroom with songs by fellow GMTWP alums and friends.

It was especially meaningful to have a song performed in the same building Hedwig and the Angry Inch started in AND where I saw the musical version of Debbie Does Dallas (and was literally rolling in the aisle laughing) in 2003 that changed the way I thought about musicals just as I was realizing that I wanted to write them.
